Seminole-Cree Cufe Smallhill discovers that his ill father has committed suicide. When his older sister Miri comes home for the funeral, she persuades Cufe that he needs a break from their small hometown and should come and stay with her in Tulsa. Miri is a party-hard gal and Cufe finds more sympathy from her neighbor Francie and a chance to decide what's next in his life.
